Mr. Kirk was a retired teacher and World War II veteran from Grundy County who spent summers at his cabin, cherishing the peace and tranquility of nature. He became a beloved figure in the family’s life, entertaining the owners’ two young children, Meghan and Mason, during his mountain seasons.

In 2013, the daughter wrote a letter to Mr. Kirk expressing how much she treasured growing up on the mountain and visiting his bluff for reflection and prayer. She shared her dream of returning to that serene bluff view after completing her medical education and asked if he would ever consider selling the cabin. In 2014, Mr. Kirk passed away but had arranged for the family to purchase the property in honor of her request. The property now carries Mr. Kirk’s wish for his ashes and those of his cherished friend and caretaker Nancy to be dispersed at Hemlock Falls, ensuring their spirits find rest on the mountain they loved.
